Royal Gardens Apartment Tenerife
6 / 10
On a road overlooking the greens of the Costa Adeje Golf Course, a five-minute taxi ride from fish and seafood restaurants at La Caleta. Isolated from resort centres and amenities, a car is essential.
Style & character
10 / 10
29 one-, two- and three-bedroom villas, Asian in style, lie in magnolia and jasmine-scented gardens in cloistered seclusion above the coast. Luxurious and exquisite furniture and fabrics collected from across the globe have been brought together with an eye for consummate interior design to provide a sumptuous and exclusive, romantic bolt-hole. All carved wood ornaments, trickling fountains, wicker Bali beds and fine white linen drapes, the feng shui environment is more redolent of Thailand than Tenerife.
Service & facilities
9 / 10
Staff combine professionalism with good humour and affability, and are hugely knowledgeable about the island; each night at turndown service, recommended excursions for the following day are left along with the chocolates. Guests have unlimited access to pool and the aromatherapy Turkish bath at the Golden Pond Spa, and a menu of massage and beauty treatments are available at an additional cost. There's a small, well-equipped gym and a squash court. A freeform swimming pool is the centre piece of the open lobby and every villa has its own pool.

Rooms
Stunning, Asian chic design and a plethora of facilities including pool, air-conditioning, large plasma screen TV and DVD player, hydromassage shower, fully equipped kitchen and a mini-bar that mocks its title and is better stocked than many off licences. Villas increment from the one-bedroomed Duchess, to the palatial, three-bedroomed Queen. En-suites feature a walk-in shower and corner tub. Beds are unbelievably comfy with Egyptian cotton and silk bedding and plump, pillows. Opt for one of the Gran Majestic villas and you might find you're downsizing when you go home. Feature lighting creates a magical exterior space in which to enjoy sub-tropical nights.

Food & drink
The on-site Jardín Restaurant provides a tasty selection of hot and cold dishes for breakfast and a half-board option. Prepared by local chef Ivan, a small menu of international and traditional local dishes includes the highly recommended lobster bisque, Andalusian baby squid and black Canarian suckling pig. For dessert, the chocolate coulant is not to be missed.
